Single Malt Whiskey

Although we prefer to drink it on it’s own, if you fancy yourself a delicious, whiskey-based cocktail, try one of our favorites below!


Cherry Old fashioned

Nothing better than those Luxardo maraschino cherries, so we’ve puyt the syrup to good use!

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Highside American Single Malt Whiskey

  • .25 oz (2-3 bar spoons) Luxardo cherry syrup

  • 2 dashes Barrel Aged Bitters (try The Bitter Housewife)

  • Garnish: Maraschino cherry & orange peel

Mix all ingredients in a mixing glass, add ice, and stir for 10 seconds, or until chilled. Strain into a rocks glass over one large ice cube. Garnish with a maraschino cherry and orange peel.

black manhattan (MELE)

A slightly bitter riff on the traditional cocktail, swapping out the vermouth and bitters for Amaro!

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 oz Highside American Single Malt Whiskey

  • .5 oz Amaro Mele

  • .25 oz Orange Cordial

  • Garnish: Maraschino cherry

Mix all ingredients in a mixing glass, add ice, and stir for 10 seconds, or until chilled. Strain into a coupe glass (no ice). Garnish with a maraschino cherry.

Orange Cordial: Bring 1 cup orange juice, 1 cup water, 3 cups sugar, 2 ounces lemon juice, and the zest of 1 orange to a boil. Reduce heat and let simmer for 15-20mins. Let mix cool, strain through a cheesecloth and then mix in 1/2 ounce orange blossom water.

black manhattan (Fernet)

A slightly bitter(ER) riff on the traditional cocktail, swapping out the vermouth and bitters for Fernet!

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 oz Highside American Single Malt Whiskey

  • .5 oz Fernet Lario

  • .25 oz Vanilla-Demerara Syrup

  • Garnish: Maraschino cherry

Mix all ingredients in a mixing glass, add ice, and stir for 10 seconds, or until chilled. Strain into a coupe glass (no ice). Garnish with a maraschino cherry.

Vanilla-Demerara Syrup: Bring 1 cup demerara sugar and 1 cup water to a boil. Stir to dissolve sugar, reduce heat to simmer, and add 2-3 vanilla beans. Simmer for 10-15mins, remove vanilla beans, strain, and let cool.


Boulevardier

Take our favorite cocktail, the Negroni, and swap out the Gin for Whiskey.

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz Highside American Single Malt Whiskey

  • 1 oz Amaro Rosina

  • .5 oz Plum Syrup

  • Garnish: Orange peel

Mix all ingredients in a mixing glass, add ice, and stir for 10 seconds, or until chilled. Strain into a coupe glass (no ice). Garnish with an expressed orange peel.

 

smokey old fashioned

Punch of this Old Fashioned with a hint of smoke from the infusion of Lapsang-Souchong Tea.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Highside American Single Malt Whiskey

  • .5 oz Lapsang-Souchong Tea Syrup

  • 2 dashes Barrel-Aged Bitters

  • Garnish: Orange Peel

Mix all ingredients in a mixing glass, add ice, and stir for 10 seconds, or until chilled. Strain into a rocks glass over one large cube. Garnish with a thick orange peel.

Lapsang-Souchong Tea Syrup: Bring 1 cup water and 1 cup demerara sugar to a boil and stir until fully dissolved. Turn off heat and add 4 TB of loose Lapsang-Souchong Tea. Let sit covered for 20 minutes before straining out tea and allowing to cool.

Another variation of our house favorite Black Manhattan with our Alpine-style Sunset Hill Amaro

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Highside American Single Malt Whiskey

  • .5 oz Sunset Hill Amaro

  • .5 oz Luxardo Cherry Syrup (diluted 1:1 with filtered water)

  • Garnish: Luxardo Cherry

Mix all ingredients in a mixing glass, add ice, and stir for 10 seconds, or until chilled. Strain into a coupe glass. Garnish with Luxardo maraschino cherry.
